It's *absolutely hilarious* that the government thinks the reason people aren't having babies is because they aren't able to hook up. How are "dating retreats" going to fix the crushing realities of house pricing and the cost of raising a child?? Absolute insanity.

It's good when people have more choices, and indeed social media made it difficult to create a deep relationship, so I think events held by local governments or temples which don't have much pressure from stock holders to gain profits, are nice to have as long as they are not forced.

Interesting that at western dating events, a lot of importance is given to dress up and visual. Here everybody wearing the same clothes almost. Which would give more opportunity to see inner world and values.

This looks fun and wholesome. It's the kind of creative programmes governments should be running to help boost populations, instead of just taking the easy option of bolstering the economy by allowing more immigration. Of course, there are many other factors governments need to address too, like the cost of living and housing.

Does anyone else see only 24 people passing out of 1600 as a problem? This just seems more of a publicity stunt than a real effort to match make and increase the birth rate. Otherwise, more people would make it through and there would be multiple groups. I am not saying that they should let everyone through, but they are not even accepting 10%.

I can guarantee this will have no effect whatsoever on South Korea Birthrate. For those who do not know from 1960 to the mdi 80's the South Korean government tolerated political connected businessmen kidnapping South Korean children and selling them overseas to adopted parents or sending them to work camps where they were repeatedly beaten and worked to near collapse. The South Korean establishment has a long history of treating its own people like garbage which is part of the reason why many South Koreans do not have children, not that the South Korean government will ever take steps to build a fairer society.

This looks cool but at the same time i would be so sad if someone came to one of these events just to find someone they want to have a kid with, so many relationships in east asia end up as marriages just to have kids and there is no love, having a kid should be something that comes out of love for each other not as a stand-alone thing or just for the sake of it.

That's interesting that some of the women there have the same dating problem we have here in the states. Young women in their late teens/early twenties are told to focus on careers and put relationships on the backburner (which is fine if that's what they want to do that is 100% thier choice) however by the time they reach a point where they're content in their career, the men that they would find desirable around their age are already married off and their competition is younger and more willing to go along with a mans schedule and what he's got going on in life. not saying a woman has to do that it's just the reality

Lots of developed countries have the same problem and one of the biggest issues I've noticed is that the environment for raising a child got way worse over the years. For example, way more people move to cities and cities don't have much space so having an apartment with enough space for children is very hard to find and most of the time way to expensive for normal people. Also outside of cities people knew each other, helped each other out and also helped with raising kids but now it feels like the people who move to villages are from cities and keep their distance to everyone. I still live in the village I grew up in, as a kid I knew everyone by name, now half the people moved away or died and the new people don't even reply to my hello when we walk past each other.

It's similar to what Protestant churches do already: creating a family in Christ. I'm not Christian by the way, I just know enough. By creating a family in Christ, brothers can fall in love with sisters through familiarity. If they go to the same local church every weekend, they get to know each other deeply.

The Korean government should focus first on addressing sexism and gender inequality before trying to push people into relationships. Korean women are finally gaining more autonomy and rejecting a centuries-old social expectation that women exist mainly to become wives and mothers. More and more women now want financial independence, higher education, travel, and the freedom to build their lives on their own terms. In that context, government-funded dating programs do not solve the real problem; instead, they risk reinforcing the outdated idea that Korean women are expected to marry and have children for the sake of the state.

people look for superficial things in a relationship - just find and settle with someone you can work together as a team to live and build a family together. A very beautiful/handsome person with a great personality might not be it because they don't work out with you and your life and goals. It's about compatibility in terms of goals, values, lifestyle etc not about whos attractive and has the personality you want. It's just like team building that why the traditional arranged marriages kind of work sometimes (when its not about the money bc some girls families used to just marry them off for money), the match maker usually (if they are on the same social standing) look for compatibility based on goals, lifestyles, values instead of beauty, personality, prestige and money (also important like you don't wanna marry a man who doesn't provide for his wife bc if the wife has to hustle she is gonna be stressed, burnt out and definitely not want kids - thats why women from industrial societies who have to work and hustle don't want kids bc they want money and their career whereas traditionally the man hustles and just takes care of his wife so she isn't burnt out from hustling and being a man and can be in the right mind state to have kids). But I guess superficially money and prestige can also make the other partner happy as it provides them with financial security (most relatiobships based on attraction don't last if there us no financial support or cooperation). It's been 8 years for me, I'm a woman with a man. The struggle was shifting out of my western mindset of "i have to hustle and be masculine" into being a feminine woman since I was programed to be in the West and also to shift my partner from "let's be 50/50" to "I'm the man and I have to provide" bc I got so freakin burnt out from being a man when I shouldn't be a man and this is why the West & industrial socieities in East Asia have this marriage/relationship/low birth rate crisis. Women are expected to be equal to a man and it's so draining. I don't feel like I need to prove myself or to others and I need to be "equal" no I simply just want to be a woman and I want my man to be the man (It was hard to program my western bf to think this way bc we are taught we have to be equal, hell no, nothing in a male-female or even gay relationships are equal, one has to be yin and one has to be yang or it doesn't work out).Plus in our capitalist consumerist socieites, we often confuse sexual attraction with love, they are different and also how much women have to overly sexualize themselves to be "desired" instead of just be elegant and feminine. Also same goes for men since half the women I know only wants to date "attractive" men who are not good for them.
