  한국 스킨케어 브랜드들이 많은 소규모 방법론적으로 결함 있는 연구들을 써서 제품을 뒷받침하고 소비자들이 그 결과를 그냥 '과학적'이라고 받아들이길 바라는 것 같아. 내 입장으로는(미국인이고, 그렇다고 미국 브랜드들이 이런 것 안 하는 것도 아니지만) 한국 vs 서양 스킨케어 제품 마케팅에서 그런 거를 좀 더 자주 봐.

  I feel a lot of korean skincare brands tend to use a ton of small-scale, methodologically-challenged studies to back up their products and expect consumers to blankly accept the results as "scientific." maybe this is a cultural thing for me as an American (and not that American brands don't do this), but I feel like I see that sort of thing slightly more in the marketing of Korean vs western skincare products.

  닥터리 영상은 성분의 화학을 정말 깊게 들어가서 분석했는데 좋았어요. 그리고 언급한 것처럼, 새로운 아누아 포뮬레이션이 효과가 있을 수 있지만 - 당신이랑 다른 사람들이 언급한 것처럼 - 문제는 투명성이 부족하고 책임을 지려는 의지가 없다는 거에요. 저는 Cos de Baha 20% 아젤라산으로 바꿨고 정말 좋아해요. 그리고 Geek and Gorgeous를 정말 좋아해요! 아누아 클렌징 오일에서 G&G Mighty Melt 클렌징 밤으로 바꿨는데 너무 좋아요.

  The Doctorly video did a really deep dive into the chemistry of it which was great, and as mentioned, the new Anua formulation may be effective - but as you and others have mentioned, the problem is the lack of transparency surrounding it and the unwillingness to take any accountability. I’ve switched to a Cos de Baha 20% Azaleic Acid which I really like. Also, I love Geek and Gorgeous! I switched from the Anua Cleansing Oil to the G&G Mighty Melt Cleansing Balm and it’s lovely.

  놀랍지 않아. 아누아는 예전부터 내 눈에 의심스러운 브랜드라서 그들 제품은 안 사기로 했어. 형편없게 포뮬레이션된 것 같아 - 클렌징 오일이랑 클렌저가 그걸 쓰는 대부분 사람들 피부를 터트리고, 그렇게 핫했던 토너는 나랑 다른 사람들한테 자극을 줬어. 난 사절할래. 그들 제품은 정말 오버하이프된 것 같아. 내 기준으로 아누아는 스킨케어 세계의 로드처럼 형편없게 포뮬레이션된 제품인데 마케팅은 대박인 거야. 물론 난 여전히 영상 보고 알고리즘 지원하려고 댓글 달긴 했어. Rob 응원할게.

  I am not surprised. ANUA as a brand has been shady to me for a while to the point where I refuse to buy any of their products. They seem to be poorly formulated - the cleansing oil and cleanser seems to break out most people who use it, their toner that was so hyped up gave me and others I had it try irritation. No thanks. Their products seem to be way overhyped. To me ANUA is to skincare world what Rhode is to makeup: poorly formulated but great marketing. But of course I still watch the video and leave a comment for the algorithm to support Rob

  Something else about Anua. They are on r/AsianBeauty's 'Banned brands' list, along with others like Medicube and Vegreen. The ban on bringing them up was because these brands had, supposedly, engaged in shady behavior like making fake accounts and sponsored posts to promote their products without disclosure of their affiliation. Just another reason not to buy from them.

  여기가 내가 정말 싫어하는 한국 스킨케어 부분이야. 제품에서 문제를 발견 못하고 자기 잘못을 인정하지 않는 거. 이건 Medicube가 했던 것처럼 - 사람들이 Medicube 기기로 안면 마비가 됐다고 주장하고 그들의 의사가 그건 불가능하다고 나왔을 때 - 과학에서는 법칙이나 물리학에 어긋나지 않는 한 절대 불가능한 건 없어. 그때부터 Medicube 아이템 단 하나도 안 샀어.

  This is where I really hate Korean skincare when they find no issues in their products instead of owning up to their fault. This is the same with medicube when there are people claiming to have facial paralysis with medicube device and their doctor just came out saying that’s impossible when in science, nothing is absolutely impossible unless it goes against the law or physics. I haven’t purchased a single medicube item since then.

  저는 그냥 반응성 홍조를 줄이는 데 도움이 되고, 모공 개선하고, 소염 효과 있고, 그리고 피부 품질을 높이는 정도로 봐요.. 아누아가 이런 것들에는 저한테 잘 먹혀요. 그런데 저는 색소침착이나 여드름이나 큰 문제가 없긴 해요.. 그런 건 더마 처방이 최고라고 생각해요.. 그래도 저는 제품이 아누아여서 사는 건 아니고, 그냥 포뮬레이션과 얼마나 편한지가 좋아서 써요.. 지금은 Round Lab 아젤라산으로 바꾸는 중이에요. TXA랑 madecassoside 말고도 베타-글루칸이랑 더 많은 히알루론산이 있어서 편하거든요.. 저는 그들도 소금 형태 아젤라산을 쓸 거 같은데 그래도 나한테 효과가 있으니까 괜찮아요.

  I like it for what it is.. just a help for reducing reactive redness, pore refinement and decongestant help, and just skin quality.. anua works for me on these, but i don’t have hyperpigmentation, acne, or big problems.. for that i think derm prescription is best.. that being said I am not sold on the product because it is anua, i just enjoy the formulation and how comfortable it is.. i am moving to round lab azelaic acid though because i like their added txa and madecassoside as well as beta-glucan and more weights of hyaluronic acid for comfort.. i am pretty sure they also use azelaic acid in salt form and i am still okay with that because it does the job for me

  I think it all depends on what you are looking for in an Azelaic Acid product. If you are just looking to soothe your skin barrier, the cosmetic serums (which have a higher ph and are more gentle on the skin) may be just the ticket. But, if you are treating rosacea or more serious pigmentation issues, you may be better off with a more traditional pharmacy type product, which will have a lower ph. By way of example, my husband has been very happy with the Cos de Baha 20% Azelaic Acid cream to treat his mild rosacea. It has a ph of around 6 (reportedly) so is theoretically a salt version but still seems to work well for him. Meanwhile, I have been struggling with pigmentation for years and while the Cos de Baha cream moved the dial a bit, it wasn’t until I changed to a traditional pharmacy 15% Azelaic cream (ph of 4) that I noticed a real change.

  The Anua azelaic acid actually works well, I use it (8months in) because it is a well rounded serum, not just azelaic acid, I thought originally that it was going to be too strong. But actually it works fine. I’ll keep using it, Anua generally works really well for me, I guess different formulations work for different skin types. Anua has saved my rosacea skin so many times from flare ups. I wish Beauty of Joseon worked better for my skin, but unfortunately it doesn’t 😢. For full disclosure I also use inkey list 10% azelaic acid once a day. But then the 2 combined work better than my 20% prescription azelaic acid which has terrible formulation.   I have good news about azelaic acid serums with inappropriate pH. I was checking the YesStyle website and found that Cosrx released a 20% azelaic acid cream with a pH of 4. In fact, the description explicitly states that it is formulated with a pH of 4. I think this is a response to the scandal surrounding azelaic acid serums with unsuitable pH levels. It also contains PHA, alpha arbutin, and other calming ingredients, and is fragrance-free and contains no essential oils.

  저는 아누아 선크림만 샀는데 맘에 들었지만, 이 브랜드에서 더 이상 안 사기로 했고 채널에서도 추천 안 하기로 했어요. 불일치 사항이 너무 많은데 쉽게 피할 수 있었던 것들이에요. 정말 많은 게 잘못됐어요... 닥터리 영상에 대해서는... 솔직히 그 포인트가 뭔지도 모르겠고 거기에 만족하는 댓글들도 이해가 안 돼요. 최소한 한 의사는 용해된 버전이 서스펜션 버전보다 낫다고 결론 내렸는데... 뭐 이러는 거예요???? 2012년 한 개의 침투 연구에만 기반해서 - 그것도 임상 연구도 아니고, 결과를 보지도 않고, 아누아와 정확히 같은 파라미터도 없는 - 정말 말이 안 돼요. 그리고 그들이 다른 모든 아젤라산 제품이 뻣뻣하다고 마치 아누아가 우아한 포뮬러를 만들 수밖에 없는 것처럼 행동한 것도 마음에 안 들어요. 2026년에는 많은 아젤라산 제품이 뻣뻣하지 않고 뭉치지도 않아요. 물론 완벽한 우아한 텍스처는 아니지만요. 그들은 또한 파생상을 사용하면서 파생상을 사용한다고 명시하는 것 - 예를 들어 G&G처럼 - 도 초우아한 포뮬러를 만드는 옵션이라는 걸 언급하지 않았어요. 이 모든 것의 윤리적 부분은 아예 무시했는데, 뭐 더 말할 필요가 있나요. 정직하게 말해서 그 영상을 볼수록 그들이 곧 비슷한 제품을 출시하려고 하는 거 아닌가 의심됐어요. 왜냐하면 그들 자신의 결론이 영상에서 사용한 자신의 주장과 맞지 않거든요. 그리고 그들은 이 부분에 대해 화장품 화학자만큼 지식이 많지 않다고 했는데, 용해된 버전을 찬성하는 그들의 최종 의견/입장/성명은 온라인에서 논의하는 어떤 화학자보다 더 강해요.

  I only bought the Anua sunscreen which I liked but I also decided to not buy from this brand anymore and not promote it on my channel either. There are way to many inconstancies which could have easily been avoided. So many things are wrong... Regarding the Doctorly video…honestly I did not understand the point of it at all nor the comments which were satisfied with it. One of the Dr at least concluded by saying that solubilized version are better than suspension version…. Like what ???? Based on one single penetration study from 2012 which is not even a clinical study, does not look at the results and don’t have the exact same parameters as Anua… Also I did not like that they acted as if all other azelaic acid products were gritty so Anua has no other choice to get an elegant formula. Plenty of azelaic acid products in 2026 are not gritty do not ball up although yes they don’t have a perfect elegant texture . They also did not mention that using the derivative while mentioning you’re using the derivative like G and G is also an option to get a super elegant formula. And let’s not even talk about the ethic part of all of this that was completely ignored. Honestly the more I was watching the video the more I was wondering if they are soon launching a similar product because their own conclusion did not make sense with their own arguments used in the video. Also they mentioned that they are not as knowledgeable as cosmetic chemists on that aspects but their final opinion/position/statement on favour of solubilized versions is stronger that any chemists which are arguing online.

  I think that not disclosing the actual type of azelaic acid form used might in their proprietary formulation might have been a move to prevent dupes from being developed by other competitor brands. If they did change the formulation without telling anyone, then it's really shady.

  아누아가 먹혔을 거라고 생각했을 텐데 Good Molecules 버전을 샀으니까요(인정하건대 덜 럭셔한 사용감이긴 함). 몇 주 안 돼서 내 로사셀 홍조가 눈에 띄게 진정됐고 여드름도 말랐어요. 더 잘 효과가 있는 것 같고 더 싸요. 병이 덜 예쁘고 텍스처가 뻣뻣한 것도 참겠어요.

  I would have said that the Anua was working if it wasn’t for the fact that I bought the Good Molecules version (which is admittedly less luxurious of a use experience) and within a few weeks my rosacea redness is calming noticeably and my acne is drying up. It seems to work better and it’s cheaper. I’ll live with the bottle being less pretty and the gritty texture.

  I also used anua for months and didn’t see much improvement on my rosacea then tried the Good Molecules azelaic acid cream and wow! It worked within a few days my redness and inflammation was almost completely gone. Kept using for about a year now and you can’t tell I have rosacea anymore. I also use the Foundation skincare 14% azelaic acid cream fantastic.

  Eh, I don't understand the fuss. To me, a scam would be claiming an ingredient was in the product when it wasn't. I have to believe all companies, across every industry, probably pick the study that gives them the result they want. Perfumers reformulate fragrances all the time and lie about it. And who knows, it may be a cultural thing. I don't use this acid, but the overall scandal seems like a tempest in a teapot. My opinion, of course. I know a lot of people are upset.

This issue with Anua has me wondering if any of the serum forms of Azelaic Acid (that have not disclosed they are using a derivative) are effective...the one I have been recently using is the Nineless...I am on my second bottle and I am not seeing any results...I am curious about your thoughts...Take care!❤️

Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream은 겨울에 필수고, 선크림도 좋아요. 저는 세일 때까지 기다렸다가 스톡업해요. J 뷰티도 많이 써요 - Shiseido, Biore. 저는 (호주에 살고 있어서) 많은 선크림을 써요. 그리고 이 브랜드들도 제 호주 소재 리테일러에서 사용 가능하기 전에 TGA 테스트를 통과해야 한다는 사실에 믿음을 두고 있어요.

  Brands I trust-cos de baha (their serums are excellent and directions for use on packaging very detailed and honest), G and G (retinal, eye cream), isntree (for sunscreen), APLB (body washes, body lotions with actives), Some by Mi (toner, essence, retinal eye cream-love) Skin 1004 (love everything I've tried!! The newer TECA line is fab! Thanks Rob for the rec there!) and more makeup brands like Heimish. I do buy some stuff from Purito (cevntella unscented eye cream, cleansing oil-not sunscreen however) Pyungangyul-best cleansing balm ever, also love their sheet masks. Beauty of Joseaon Dynasty Cream is a must have in winter and their suncreens are great too. I wait for sales and then I stock up. I also buy lots of J beauty too-Shisdeido, Biore. I use a lot of suscreen (I live in Australia) and I place my trust in the fact that these brands also have to pass TGA testing before being available from my Australian based retailer.
