Hahaha many of us Americans absolutely LOVE East Asian people. We aren't making fun. It is because we consider them intelligent and... it isn't punching down. It is because they are intelligent and talented. We know it won't hurt them. Its just fun. Also, many of us just enjoy them. We love them so much. They are intelligent and capable people. I hope they understand this. We really respect them.

You guys are actually younger than my children, at least I think you are. Both of my kids are in their mid and late thirties. I just wanted to say that I subscribed because I really enjoy the fact that you guys really appreciate comedy. Especially comedy that is, in this day and age, deemed to be offensive. I'm almost 60 years old, I'm generation x. Almost nothing offends me because we were raised to have very thick skin our parents made damn sure of that I just wanted to thank you for showing me that people your age can actually appreciate and enjoy good ethnic humor. I raised my children to understand the difference between racism and racial humor. I just wanted to tell you how much joy it brings me that there is hope for these younger generations to be able to truly enjoy racial comedy so thank you very much for the laughs that you guys give me. Because, at my age, joy is one of the finest things you can find each and every day

Personally I love it when Asian people speak English. I love their accents. I also believe that it's a sign of intelligence. If a person speaks more than one language, usually they are more open minded and are always learning new things. Those are the type of people I would love to have in my circle of friends. 💖

Yes, we think your English accents are cute, but I absolutely love Korean comedy. Your Korean accents are very expressive. ❤ Yuqi "funny moments" talking about altitude sickness, a Chinese actress filming in Korea, just adorable, should watch that.

Your english accents are very endearing and good. Seriously, don't get discouraged. Comedians have to find a joke in anything as part of their job, so they exaggerate the accents to unrealistic levels.

I'm glad you guys can appreciate this kind of humor! It's nice to see people who can laugh at comedy without taking everything personally or looking for reasons to be offended. They probably would get cancelled if they made similar jokes or did impressions involving black or african accents. Liberal Americans find pretty much everything "racist" these days, especially when comedians make jokes about race or ethnicity. The double standard is so stupid.. Making fun of whites (and, in this case, Asians) is considered hilarious, while making the same kind of jokes about other races, like blacks, mexicans or muslims (or women) leads to outrage, accusations of racism, and demands to cancel the comedians. Comedy should be allowed to push boundaries without every joke being turned into a political or moral issue.

This could be wrong, but I read that when we are children, our tongue dexterity develops to be able to make the sounds that we require and after a certain age it can be very difficult to train it to make other sounds. So, people from certain areas struggle when speaking English as a second language, and the same goes for the other way around unless you were exposed to other languages very early in your development.

I am an American and I wanted to describe what it is like when we hear a non native speaker. Usually we can tell you are very well educated. One of the tells is that you use better vocabulary words than what Americans use in everyday speech. So inflection or your dialect may be off, but we can tell whomever taught you to speak English was most likely a native speaker. Specifically talking about Koreans when they speak English.

둘은 'la/ra, le/re, li/ri, lo/ro, lu/ru'처럼 지역 악센트로 구분돼요.

Korean is a nice blend between Japanese and Chinese from a foreign listeners perspective. I've watched Japanese media in Japanese for like 2 decades now and Japanese is probably the closest sounding asian language to a western language in terms of consonants and vowels but japanese has a strict consonant-vowel cadence that western languages don't an no distinguishment between 'l' and 'r' with the two consonants being distinguished as regional accents aplied to la/ra,le/re,li/ri,lo/ro and lu/ru. The western world has not only separates l from r, it has regional accents in making the r sound that other languages like those from the ganges basin consider to be different consonants as well because we can make the r sound by rolling the tip of our tongues on our pallettes or we can do it by pulling out toungue back towards our throats and then squeezing the air near our tonsils and hold our toungs in spoon shape near the top of our mouths coupled with a "w"-ish movement near the lips. Western accents have relatively high contrast vowels and consonants, which is why Japanese is similar. When you go to china it's a lot of gutteral sounds and sounds formed at the front of the mouth so to us it sounds like "Gah gwong woo shi jo kwo ching shjo dgjah" and then it's cute because you then run into people who have names that are onomatopoeia in our languages like ting, gong, miu (a cat's meow in french) or for an english speaker -> dong The you get to hear something like the Japanese accent and it's all "Herro, wa-to duu want a piece-u ah-vo me? I warn-a yuu, I very strong at-o kick-u and-o punch-ie." so yeah, it's super enetertaining for westerners.

I love that she said we think its cute. I can only speak for myself but i love accents it also gives me an opportunity to appreciate my own language. I feel like english is known for being confusing but the pronunciation isn't as difficult in my opinion as tonal languages like portugese or japanese (not so much) or chinese which is very tonal. Like some languages tone matters whereas like tone in english can change the meaning but punctuation is the defining factor. So idk being raised only speaking english it never really appreciate how difficult it can actually be. I think the interesting thing too about Americans especially is we don't typically correct pronunciation or phrasing unless we absolutely cant understand it otherwise if we understand you we won't correct you because we don't want to discourage people from learning. At the same time it's super unhelpful though because non english speakers want to learn the right way and we make it so hard for them.

My Grandmother always said, If you can laugh at yourself, you take away most people's only weapon against you.

Literally in the first seconds of the video : "BOBBY REE" 💀

The reason Ronny Chieng sounds different from a normal American is because he lived in Australia for 10+ years. He pronounces R’s the way we do.

In the US, we wouldn’t call him a second generation immigrant; he was born here and he’s an American. We would say he’s first generation Korean American, meaning he was the first generation in his family born here.

The reason ronnie cheng drops the 'r' sound is that he lived in Australia (his wife is Australian and he studied there) and Australians don't pronounce the 'r' sound in words like 'car'.

The best bit that was missing was Bobby saying Harvard in an Asian accent. Andrew legitimately didn't know what he was saying and Bobby retells the whole thing but says Harvard in his normal accent

Bobby Lee’s mother compared him to Elvis Presley (jokingly calling him a "young Elvis" or the "Korean Elvis") on the Bad Friends podcast.
