I love the constant texting! I've never dated, but I was in a situationship once where there was overt mutual interest, and we texted a lot. It wasn't as constant as described in this video because we both felt like we wanted to be polite and not intrude on each other too much, but I personally would've loved to be texting most of the day to update each other on what we were doing. I think it's naturally, especially in the early stages of a relationship, to want to hear from the other person all the time. There's something very intimate and personal about it!

I like that Koreans aren't constantly having a contest on who can be the most naked in public.....

I've learned something i never thought I wanted to know but now I'm intrigued. Seems complicated but easily structured. I hope that there's some romance in there somewhere.

Personally i don't want to make dating or texting a chore type of activity. I don't like the expectation of 24/7 texting and updateing. Even as an anxious person i don't think that type of habit is healthy or manageble. I trust my boyfirend, i don't want to talk about everything going on all the time, especially when life gets busy. I'd be exhausted.

Just to be clear, the Women makes these rules and the Men follow them. Most men don't even care about these rules of dating and find them tiring.

I think the confessing is cute and could be valuable to avoid misunderstandings about where you are in a relationship…. The texting every hour is way too much. Side note- a lot of couples start saying I love you way to early in America too.

All that texting is ridiculous. You go on a few date's, and if the chemistry is there, you'll know it. And if it's not, then just be casual friends. Your so called contracts are irrelevant. As for the clothing, if you want to show half of your boobs, go ahead. If you don't, then don't. Same goes for the mini skirt. Your either shy or your not. It's as simple as that. Just enjoy life the best you can. And if you offend someone, say your sorry and don't do it again. ✌

Texting 24/7 ? Sending a message every 20 minutes or every hour sounds extremely exhausting! If that would be the requirement in a relationship I would be gone before it even started. I mean how do you work or sleep during that time?

I seriously don't think there's any chance to actually meet someone before living with them and that is scary...because I'm not talking about home habits here (those make a before and after in the relationship) but on ways of expressing oneself. Everyone needs distance to emotionally process what they are living.

The constant texting would be a no go for me. Somehow it’s like stalking. At work it would be completely impossible for me. We don’t have time for this. Just during the break. Also it’s so strange for me that extremely short skirts are ok, but the chest has to be extremely covered. To me this is like nearly the same.

Jesus christ, I’d lose my mind at the texting I routinely forget to reply to my sister for days at a time and vice versa. If texts were meant to be that immediate it’d just be a damn phone call; the entire point is it being asynchronous

As a US dude, I'd usually consider "you should always text me your location" to be a potential red flag for a possessive person. But I can remember some exceptions in my personal dating history. Like once, I told a woman I was dating that on the late night bus from her apartment back to mine, I got accosted by a stranger. After that, any time I rode that bus home, she wanted me to text her when I got home safely. It was clear she was just worried about me and wanted me to be safe, so it never bothered me. As for "I love you," people vary so widely but I think in most cases here, "I love you" right after becoming official would seem fast and, again, potentially a red flag. (People will sometimes "love bomb" their new partners in a dishonest and manipulative way) I am personally very slow to say "I love you" and say it infrequently even to family members, because it feels like too heavy a word to be thrown around lightly. I did once date a woman who told me she was in love with me on our second date and it took me aback, thinking "woah, how can you say that when we just started dating this week?" (Of course, I didn't say that out loud! I'm not a monster, lol)

Sweden used to not even have a real "dating" culture, people just met at parties, at work, mutual friends or out at events and hooked up. Then people decided if it was worth pursuing or not by hanging out more but it was never seen as dates, and didn't function in the same way. Nowadays American culture has sadly influenced us a lot and most people(millennials and younger) now expect dating for a while before deciding if you wanna become a couple. There is still some of that spontaneous old Swedish style there, but it's slowly being erased by American dating standards which I find sad. I hope the Swedish romance culture survives though, rather than get completely erased by American dating. I'd say the only unspoken rules in Swedish dating is that you usually take turns to pay. But even here American culture is seeping in and soon I'm expecting people to expect the man to pay. Also you don't commit to calling the other person a partner(girlfriend/boyfriend) until WAY late. This can take months. I know a girl who only after a year of consistently meeting with her now boyfriend called him her boyfriend. Because nobody had committed to saying it. Gifts are often seen as a burden or debt that you have to pay back, so go easy on gifts early on in a relationship, you'll often(not always) make the other part feel like now they have to do something in return, even if you tell them that they don't have to. Touch and flirting is common though. A lot of people have sex first and decide if they wanna be a couple later. Usually with the help of alcohol. I think the overall international idea that Sweden is very promiscuous is misleading, but it's definitely a bit relaxed compared to many cultures. Texting also varies. Some people want it, some prefer phonecalls.

Of course this system wouldn't fly in the West, particularly the US and to a slightly lesser degree Canada. Although your system is much more restrictive and rules-based I think that it makes a lot of sense. Teens and Twenty Year olds are still maturing and discovering who they are. This system is almost a protection for them to not make rash decisions that they may regret. passion, love, physical attraction can overwhelm common sense so these rules I think would try to offset that with some rigid stages which are understood by both people. I think, with a few reservations, that your system is much better than ours because it protects young people from making careless decisions.

Everything seemed like, livable with. Until you get to the reporting 24/7 aspect. I'm really bad at texting and I usually avoid it. I guess I could live with occasional daily calls, but like, I send around 100 texts a day max. And that counts replies and group chat messages. Onto how we date here, the skin double standard is something which happens, particularly in schools. Say, it is wrong for a girl to show her cleavage or belly button, which is why our shirts are longer and our pe t-shirts have different types of turtle necks. But it was common for girls to wear PE uniforms on regular days (we don't really change inside school much), and their shorts (a strange expanding type) to be what they wore three years ago, or even back in elementary school. That said, those borderline underwear skirts are a bit uncanny for women here. Let's just say most of the "night workers" around my campus wear a hoodie and very small shorts to denote their occupation without being too obvious for police to get them. Though, it is a cultural thing, and a major culture shock (you can tell one is into K-pop or J-pop by their skirt length actually). Cleavage on the other hand, is rather a common show. But, even then, it does say something about you the more skin you show. When it comes to men: wearing tight shirts without a jacket, sleeveless (if you aren't poor or a construction worker) or tight pants also gets you the looks. And, ngl, the confessing part is something I'd like. Not because I don't like the gradual getting comfortable thing. But because some girls like to take the meeting part seriously. While others (from my experience) outright may semi officialize you after two or three dates (without you knowing!!!!) We also have the "you can have multiple steadies" thing until you officialize. But since semi officialize, I've seen many of my friends get in trouble with girls they really cared about because they didn't know they had semi officialized them. I think touch is also related to how you greet people. Here in Lima you hug more often, and with girls you usually kiss them in their right cheek the first time you meet them (in Madrid is the same, though you kiss both their cheeks, like the French). If they're more upper class, you may have to kiss their hand until they get comfortable around you. In Korea and Japan I noticed touch is less common when meeting friends (in this case, even strangers). While here and in Spain it is disrespectful not to. Even our Japanese and Chinese communities (both around 150k in the capital city) adopted the tradition fully. Ironically enough, men are more reserved. You handshake a lot, even with friends. If you're closer, you may do a hand trick and then bump shoulders. With female friends you usually hug and then cheek-kiss for contrast. It's like, hugging amongst men means a lot, like a lot. Even children might rarely hug their fathers as they aged up due to this. That said, this is like, I come from the most "posh" and "Spanish" region of Lima. The traditions of the majority of the city (made from interior immigrants continuous brought by famine and civil wars over the last 8 decades) are rather foreign to me, so this comment might be rather inaccurate for most of the country lol. Should help in Spain though.

In the West there are two sorts of I love you’s. The first is said openly between friends, and it doesn’t have a deep meaning, beyond communicating affection. I told my male friend, I love his wife, he took it as a compliment. Then there is I love you between romantic couples. Carries a lot more weight, and you wouldn’t say that casually, it means the relationship has reached the next stage, at least for the person declaring love.

Hyokey, in Spain the vibe is pretty similar. You can hang out with different people, but things usually become official once someone says they want something serious, and most of the time it’s the guy who does that. Texting a lot and sharing where you are or what you’re doing is just part of the culture. It’s not only between couples, it happens with parents and kids too. Families in Mediterranean and Korean cultures tend to be really close, which feels totally different compared to how independent family relationships usually are in English‑speaking countries, especially the US.

Where I'm from in Canada, adult couples tend to have a conversation about whether they want to date exclusively now and officially be girlfriend / boyfriend / partners. The constant texting (more than a few times a day) usually peters out after the first couple weeks of meeting, too. Thank god for that - texting shouldn't be a full time job 😂

the more i hear about how other cultures date, the more i appreciate how my side of the world goes about it. we have a courting stage, where the guy or the girl tries to basically show his/her best foot forward towards the one s/he is courting. think of it as a kind of show of sincerity, loyalty and initial testing of compatibility. this could take as fast or as long depending on each individual. this is not yet the dating stage. its basically wooing the other party. they would be officially dating when the one being courted finally says yes to the one courting. the ammount of texting they would exchange is part of their compatibility test. they could ask each other to lessen or be frequent on messaging, really depends on them or how compatibile they are. if one is too much or too few and they really cant align, then its either the one being courted would say no to the one courting(and the courting stage ends), or just break off the relationship if they are already dating. the texting aspect is ofcourse just an example. anything that could be labeled as "compatibility" could be tested during the courting stage, even before the officially dating stage.

I'm from Brazil and a while ago a girl from here posted a video talking about this. She started to date a Korean guy once and she said he was driving her nuts because of the constant texting and the pressure on her to reply as quickly as she could. And he would get very upset if she didn't text him right away. I thought she was exaggerating or maybe the guy was a little bit crazy but apparently this is really a cultural thing. I personally wouldn't have the patience to deal with a man like that because I hate texting 🤷‍♀️

I'm dating a Korean woman (29) in Germany and we went on a third date, although I'd say it's like the "some" state, since it's the third time we've met in general. I told her that I really like her by the end of the date, following a message with a cute selfie we've done together and audio message, where I was a bit more concrete about my feelings and what I like about her. The date was just yesterday, she was pretty tired, so I'm waiting for a response. The big problem: She's not a texter and phone user at all! (very fascinating tbh). She uses her messenger just for planning stuff and is like a passionate workoholic, so we chat like once in the evening. She haven't reacted to our selfie and my audio yet. She texted me she came home safely tho. I know that noone can help me here, but can you guys understand how I'm sitting on hot coals right now, waiting for a reply?🙃

I remember when I was dating a Korean girl. After about a month, she told me she was tired of being in a situationship and that if I wanted to be with her, I should officially ask her to be my girlfriend. The funny thing is, I genuinely thought we had already been dating that whole time! 😂 But apparently, for her, we weren’t officially dating because neither of us had explicitly asked to start a relationship.

I've experienced all of that dating in Korea as an American who doesn't text much. It was big culture difference. Especially being in the military and sometimes not having your phone for 12 hours at a time, it can make things very difficult if the other person doesn't understand. And God save your soul if you look at a text and forget to reply, leaving it on read...

Now I understand K-drama! My wife and I watch them and it is exasperating... how slow they are... how extremely slow... chapter after chapter they do nothing. We finishednine recently that the main couple declared and did nothing in the last 4 episodes. We suspected it should be based on real Korean rules and this video has explained it. The texting part was funny. You could be dating an AI and wouldn't notice it!

I noticed right away after getting into KPop that the girl groups only show their legs. I think it’s kind of sweet coming from the West where there isn’t much modesty. What’s funny is that my wife and I have been married 35 years and we text each other throughout the day, but because we’re genuinely interested in how each other’s day is going, not because we are monitoring each other’s location.

my boyfriend is korean and im swedish but i have adapted to his way of handling our relationship ! he also prefers texting constantly and telling the slightest details which sometimes can be a little annoying at the times when im upset at him but either way im also very much the same so we have figured it out! if you date someone from another nationality or personality try to find ways to make their way of liking/loving yours aswell! since im swedish our dating cultures is a little different in general but making it work is all that counts !! 💗

4:41 Wow! I've heard bits and pieces of these Korean dating rules here and there, but you really explained it! I think every culture will have something that works for them, and something that doesn't (is not comfortable). I'm a very, very private person, so the texting and reporting my location would never work for me, haha. But then again, I'm asexual, so I won't be dating anybody. I wonder what it's like to date as a queer person in Korea. It might be harder or easier depending on who you date... but that's also how heterosexual relationships work. This video was so nice and easy to listen to Hyokey 언니, thank you and take care of yourself!! P.S. I'm also working to be at a healthy and happy weight because I feel like I'll be really sick in the future if I don't eat well. To me, you look so healthy and happy, and I think that's what matters!!

And.... Korea has the lowest birth rate of any nation in the world.
